Self-Reflection
Nathan W. Morris once said, “The speed of your success is limited only by your dedication and what you're willing to sacrifice.” In other words, depending on how much time and effort a person puts towards your areas of development it will determine the amount of success you will have overall. In class we were assigned a self-reflection questionnaire. The questionnaire had several questions which allowed us to determine our strengths and weaknesses. I discovered a lot about myself as a result of completing the questionnaire. I have great strengths in leadership and communication and also innovation. My areas for development are dependability, organizing and supervision.
The questionnaire consists of various skills that we possess. When it comes to interest of work I display high interest and I am very enthusiastic. In most of my classes I come in time and try to the best of my ability to have work handed in on time. I also demonstrate initiative consistently. I love asking questions and being confident in my works, I am very motivated to get the highest grade in class. I do an average amount of planning and organizing. I have my days where I get lazy and try to finish everything on the last which makes me lack in that area. When it comes to setting goals, I have excellent progress in working towards the finish line. I remember I set a goal during the summer to lose 15lbs and I ended up losing 50lbs. I have always had great success in setting goals and end up over achieving myself and doing even better than I had planned. My ability to learn is above average. As soon as I pay full attention in class I reveal my full potential to learn quickly and understand the subject very well. When it comes to quality of work I display excellent effort and very few errors. I strive all the time to make my work the best it can be, like essays or projects. I produce satisfactory work. I focus on the quality of the work than quantity, I don’t say nor write much when it comes to work, but I make sure that my work is really good. When it comes to creativity I continually offer new ideas and I am extremely imaginative. When the teacher assigns a project I make sure that I think outside the box and try to make my work as unique as possible. I frequently show evidence of thinking deeply. I remember when I first started learning the basics of video editing, now in my second term of editing things it is much easier for me because I reflected back to when I first started. I usually make good decision when it comes to judgment. I would always make good decisions on what was best to help my little brother do better in math and at the end of the school year he ended up passing with an A average. I am highly adept and innovative when problem solving skills. In my life I have been challenged with many conflicts that I can reflect back on all the time, which has made me really good at problem solving. I am very effective and consistent in handling interpersonal conflict in most situations. In the past I have helped my friends get over problems they’ve had and came up with the best solutions for all parties concerned. My writing skills are satisfactory. When writing essays or poems I show good effort, but sometimes lack on being specific when writing details about my literature but I still manage to keep my writing skills good. Although in some categories I demonstrate satisfactory work, I possess stronger skills in different areas.
In the questionnaire I discovered what my greatest strengths are. I have very exceptional oral communication skills, I am very clear and well organized and easily understood. In my lifetime I’ve had numerous occasions where I’ve had to do public speaking and with that experience I was able to develop excellent oral communication. I am constantly always working in harmony with my peers, I am an excellent team worker and I contribute to the best of my ability. In class there was a group activity called “The Death Swamp” one of the key requirement was teamwork in order to get to the finish line, we failed and failed but I kept working with my group and took leadership into my hands and used team work to our best ability and finished having the best time out of everyone else involved. As a person I have always had excellent abilities to motivate and direct others. In sports I try to lead my teammates down the right path and push them to their best abilities to perform at a championship level. Although I am very excellent based on these areas, I do have areas that I need to develop on.
Due to the questionnaire I realized that I have areas that I need to work on. I tend to often respond negatively to suggestions and feedback from a supervisor. I don’t like being told how I should do things because I already have a mindset on how I want to get things done. One thing that I can do to improve in this area is to have an open mindset and be willing to listen more often to any superior. When it comes to dependability I am often unreliable and require close supervision. I lose focus in school very easily if there isn’t a teacher around I tend to turn around and start talking to my peers, but when there is and I am being supervised I re-focus and finish my job. Something that I can do to improve in this area is to take school more seriously and talk to my peers when I’m done with my work. I adapt poorly to recognized organizational structures, rules and policies. When it comes to different rules and policies I tend not to obey them because I have this bad habit of doing whatever I think is right. One thing that I can do to develop in this area is to get rid of my old bad habits and adapt to new rules. I am determined that I will improve in my areas of development.
“The speed of your success is limited only by your dedication and what you're willing to sacrifice.” The questionnaire enabled me to reveal my areas of development and my greatest strength. It helped me realized what type of person I am in school. Also the questionnaire has opened my mind to how I can improve as a person to better myself in my life and work.
